David Norton, CPA, Principal

David Norton brings nearly two decades of experience advising clients in the real estate industry on topics as varied as transaction structuring and tax planning.  He is a principal in the tax practice based in Baltimore where he counsels clients on REIT-related mergers and acquisitions, UpREIT contributions, taxable REIT subsidiaries, the advantages and disadvantages of de-REITing, strategies for tax efficiently restructuring portfolios, foreign investment in U.S. REITs, and REIT formation. In addition to REITs, David has worked with publicly traded partnerships, residential and commercial lessors, developers, property management companies and general contractors. He also brings deep insight on low-income housing as well historic and new market tax credit issues.

David has taught many classes on partnership taxation and low-income housing tax credits and contributes articles to the Journal of Real Estate Taxation. He serves on the Partnership Technical Resource Panel of the AICPA Tax Division, which assists in formulating AICPA tax positions on government legislation and administrative regulations.
