Tim Kemper is the Regional Managing Principal for the firm's South/Central Region (Atlanta, Austin, Charlotte and Chicago offices). He also chairs the firm's national renewable energy practice. Over his career, Tim has been engaged in the underwriting for more than $1 billion in renewable energy and real estate transactions.
Specific to the renewable energy practice, Tim is actively engaged in providing clients with financial counsel related to all aspects of often complicated transactions including tax credits, financial structuring and modeling, underwriting, valuation, capital infusion, due diligence and grant advisory services. His client base includes investors, entrepreneurs, developers, manufacturers and installers as well as independent power producers utilizing wind, solar, geothermal, biomass,energy efficiency and other technologies.
In the course of structuring and underwriting, Tim considers economic and quantitative factors as well as qualitative factors that impact programmatic issues and the reputational and community development considerations that can be so important in renewable energy transactions. He is extensively involved in the financial structuring and modeling of transactions and works closely with all parties to address various tax issues while mitigating the tax impact upon liquidation. He is also is involved in associations and regulatory bodies that influence and affect policy in the renewable energy industry and speaks on the subject at numerous national and regional conferences.
Tim advises clients on structuring real estate and renewable transactions that include mixed use developments and private equity fund investments, focusing on tax advantaged real estate and renewable energy investments. He manages compliance with partnership tax allocation requirements; examination and analysis of financial forecasts; due diligence; and tax planning and tax compliance reviews for partnerships and corporations. He has broad experience in the areas of public and private syndication and work-out situations, passive activity rules, financial and tax planning. His clients include major publicly-held Fortune 500 companies, private equity funds, and experienced renewable energy and real estate developers across the United States.
